Every year, the tourist flow in Kazakhstan continues to grow, along with the increasing number of restaurants, coffee shops, and hotel complexes. Accordingly, the demand for highly qualified specialists in the hospitality and restaurant industry is also rising. In response to modern labor market requirements, in 2021 the first educational restaurant and hotel complex in Kazakhstan, ATU Inn, was opened at Almaty Technological University. ATU Inn was created specifically to enhance students’ practical skills and professional training. It is a unique educational platform where theoretical knowledge is combined with real practice in conditions максимально close to those of an operating restaurant and hotel.

The ATU Inn hotel consists of 14 rooms: 4 luxury rooms, 4 junior suites, and 6 standard rooms. Room reservations are managed through the modern software system HLS, while in the restaurant students learn to work with the automated service system iiko. In the coffee shop, students develop barista skills using state-of-the-art professional coffee machines. Practical classes are conducted within the educational programs: 6B11102 “Restaurant Business and Hotel Management” and 6B07209 ”Technology of public and specialized food products” Students learn how to prepare dishes of varying complexity, master proper food presentation and table service, work with guests, manage table reservations, and control service processes.

Classes are conducted by both faculty members of Almaty Technological University and invited Kazakhstani and international hospitality professionals. This allows students to gain firsthand experience from industry practitioners and prepare for real working conditions. One of the main advantages of ATU Inn is that students do not need to leave the university campus to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice. All necessary facilities are available within the university. Graduates who completed their practical training at ATU Inn have successfully built careers in leading companies of the hospitality industry, such as: Rixos Hotels, Swissotel, Almaty Resort, KazTravelAlmaty, Okzhetpes Health and Wellness Complex, Rahat Palace Almaty, Royal Tulip, and many other major organizations.
